To our Members and Valued Partners:
Our credit union was founded in 1938 by a handful of Bendix-Westinghouse Automotive Air Brake employees in a workplace cafeteria with a mission to help fellow employees thrive financially. Since then, we have stood for service over profit, and community over corporatism.
Our volunteer Board of Directors voted in 2001 to adopt a dual charter, which opened membership to the community while continuing to serve our growing base of industrial members. We changed our name from B W Industrial Credit Union, Inc. to Community Star Credit Union, Inc., DBA CommStar for everyday use. Over the years, CommStar became the name by which we were most commonly known, but it came at the expense of the core word that has been our motivation for the past 88 years and counting.
Today’s Board of Directors and credit union leadership agree that community means everything to our organization. It is the foundation upon which our credit union was built, and it remains our primary focus in everything we do. That’s why we made the decision to return to our roots and revive the full name to clarify purpose and direction.
Beginning in October, you will see and hear us using the full legal name Community Star Credit Union. This will also come with an updated logo that you will see rolled out in phases throughout the next twelve months. With the updated logo, we hope to eliminate the confusion in our name (i.e., CommStar Community Star Credit Union, CommStar Community Credit Union, and so on).
While our name and logo may look a little different in the coming months, nothing about your membership, accounts, or the people who serve you is changing. Our members are our community, and we are honored to serve you every day. Thank you for your continued support of our credit union.
